Deployment of 25 Fish Aggregating Devices in Somalia

December 2015.

Comarco has recently completed a contract for The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations for the deployment of 25 Fish Aggregating Devices, commonly known as FADS, along the coastline of Somalia.

Designed to generate high density fish populations, the FADS will boost Somalia’s small scale artisanal fishermen and tackle food insecurity and unemployment.

Comarco sourced, procured and took delivery of the component parts into the Comarco Supply Base EPZ, where the FADS were assembled, inspected and loaded onto LCT Kestrel, together with a 50t crawler crane to deploy the anchors, chains and buoys which make up each FAD.

With FAO representatives on board and under close naval escort, the crew on board Kestrel deployed the 25 FADS in various locations from Kismayo to Las Qaaray.
