New Coast Water Barges Construction

February 2015.

Comarco Group was commissioned to build two water barges for the transportation of fresh water on the Kenyan coastline. This project is financed by the World Bank and is a Kenyan Government initiative.

Both these Coast Water Barges are single engine live aboard water transport vessels. They are 18 meters long each and has the capacity to carry 20 tons of water.

The barges will be launched mid 2015, where one of the barges will be based in Lamu, transporting fresh water between Lamu, Kiwaiyu and the surrounding islands.

The second barge will be based in Shimoni and transport fresh water between Shimoni and Wasini Island.

Many people on the coast of Kenya will now have access to fresh water on a daily basis.
